I watched nervously and impatiently as Rachel sprinted towards me.
We were in the 4X100 meter race. I was the 4th runner, which means it was my job to run all the way to the finish line.
When she was about 8 feet behind me, I started jogging with my left hand held out backwards for the baton.
As soon as I felt the baton come in contact with my palm, I shifted into gear and ran as fast as I could to the finish line. We were in fourth place.
"GO HUI YING!!! GO HUI YING!!!!!" I heard Michelle and Shi Yee scream.
I came closer and closer to the third person. Just a little more...almost there...we are going to win... I promised myself.
And as I was just about to cross her, I realized that it was over. Still in fourth place.
This could not have happened. There was NO FREAKING WAY that we screwed up.
But we did.
And later on, when I was sitting on the bleachers sucking absent-mindedly on my Popsicle, Poh Leong asked me if something was wrong.
Wow. Did I really look that upset? Everyone knows that Poh Leong is hardcored sumo dude with no conscience who would smash your head open with just one flick of his wrist.
So now I'm basically listening to Jar of Hearts over and over. You know, just being your average half-emo chick.
I'm gonna get crap for this tomorrow at school, because it's ALWAYS the 4th person's fault if the whole team loses. Go figure.
Going on Skype now. Need Erica like a owl needs a sleeping pill(they always hop up on the caffeine, don't they?).
